Hi,

If the laptop indicates that it is getting power when the charger is connected try a full power refresh and check if that resolves the problem.

  • Turn off the laptop (if on) and disconnect the charger (if connected).
  • Remove the main battery from the laptop
  • Open the laptop and disconnect the RTC coin cell battery from the motherboard.

Here's the owner manual for the laptop. Go to p.10 and p.19 to view the procedures to remove the main battery and the coin cell battery, respectively. If you have a DMM (digital multimeter) measure the voltage of the RTC battery when it has been disconnected from the motherboard. If it is <2.5V DC replace it. Search online for Dell E6440 CMOS battery to find suppliers that suit you. This battery maintains the BIOS settings when the laptop is turned off and when its voltage gets too low, the BIOS can become corrupted, preventing a normal start.

  • Press and hold the laptop's power on button for a full 30 seconds and then release.
  • Reconnect the RTC coin cell battery.
  • Reassemble the laptop, reinsert the main battery, reconnect the charger and check if the laptop turns on OK.
