Can I replace the screen while the phone is on?

I have to replace the screen in my pixel 6a, but I have no way to tell if it's on or off since the LCD completely died. Is it a problem to disconnect the display from the main board while the phone is on?

You should be safe to replace the screen while it's still on, just don't use metal tools to disconnect the display. Once the new screen is on, force the device to restart by holding the power and volume up buttons for a few seconds.

Hi Andrea,

My personal suggestion would be to go ahead and follow the battery replacement guide up to the point where you unplug the battery on Step 25. It won't ensure the phone is off when removing the old screen, but it will guarantee that it's off when you attach the new display.

Of course, you'll need to move the fingerprint sensor to the new screen unless the replacement came with it already installed. If you're reusing the original sensor you may be able to get away without recalibrating it, but it's probably a good idea either way.
