Magsafe light turns on, fan runs, no power.

Hi,

My macbook suddenly didn't turn on one day. Prior to this I had run a system check and saw that my battery wasn't doing good, so when it didn't turn on I bought a replacement battery.

It still won't turn on though. I look around inside it with it plugged in and unplugged. The Magsafe light is on when I plug it in and the fan runs, but the SSD gets pretty warm quickly. Decided to take that out to see if it would be with the question mark folder, but no such luck. I'm out of ideas now besides replacing the logic board, I/O board and everything else piece by piece until it works.

I'd very much appreciate if someone could help me with this. I did try a keyboard combo I saw somewhere of holding Ctrl, Option, left-shift and the power button for ten seconds and everytime I do that the Magesafe light goes green for a short period, then back to amber. Not sure what that means, but I know the keyboard still works.

Thank you to anyone who can help.

To be clear you don’t see screens Grey color doesn’t shift a bit lighter when you power up the system. The MagSafe LED was Amber and now Green after the battery was replaced.

Give this a try disconnect the battery from the logic board, now with nothing connected press and hold the power button for a good 15secs to fully discharge the logic board now just plug in the MagSafe charger did the system spontaneously startup? If it did allow it to finish booting and do a proper shutdown, reconnect the battery and restart again. Let us know what happens.

No, screen doesn't turn on at all, but the light does turn green after being plugged in long enough with the battery. The laptop did not turn on after trying your suggestion though.

@garrettsturos - Not good😖 Your logic board has a problem.

This will need some deeper skills to repair if possible. Or you need a new logic board.

Sorry, I was in the middle of a typhoon right after I'd posted this and got side tracked when it was through. I did just turn it on, but after it being on for a couple minutes it shut down. The only thing I'd noticed was the SSD had heated up. Idk if that would help point to anything, but if not I'll just get a new logic board and go from there.

@garrettsturos - If the SSD is heating up lets take it out and test again!
