Locked to an old work email

My dad gave me an old ipad mini 2 that he got from his old job, it has been Icloud locked to an email that has been long deleted, apple store wont help without proof of me owning it, is there a way i can remove the lock for free?

Frankly NO. An iCloud lock makes it a good paperweight.
