Left clicker button popped up

The left clicker button on my MX Master 3S popped up today. The front of the clicker is pointing up, while the back of the button remains secured in place. When I try to push the button down and pop it back into place, it appears there is an item in the way. I could press harder but I don't want to break it. Any advice? Photo here.

Pulling it forward and down does not seem to fix it. When pulling down it pushes against a piece that lies just at the edge of the rectangular part that is jutting down from the button (see the second photo).

Unsure what happened-I picked it up out of my backpack and the button was sticking up.

As far as I can tell, no pieces fell out (nothing in the backpack).
