Touch Bar not lighting up, but does function.

Hi everyone,

My MacBook Pro 15" 2017's Touch Bar does not light up. It does, however, still work. When I tap in an area that there should be a button, it responds.

I have tried everything recommended online to resolve this issue to no avail. I therefore believe that this is a hardware issue and cannot be resolved without replacing parts.

I was going to replace the top case anyway, which would include a new Touch Bar. My question is, would this repair the issue that I have here?

Thanks, Philip.

Depends on what the cause of the issue is, but it’s absolutely plausible, likely even in my opinion. Probably the display part isn’t functioning, even though touch is. Those functions are handled by different connections to the logic board and separate systems. So getting a new Touch Bar, one way or the other would be my suggestion. New top case is as good a method as any.

Thank you for the input. I did notice that there is a small line on the Touch Bar, it looks like a crack, but I can't feel it, so I am wondering if that is damage to the OLED panel on the inside.

I am going to order the top case soon!
