Right joycon drift worse after repair

Right joycon was drifting hard to the right (camera spinning rapidly etc.) when idle but I could still move the camera in the opposite direction.

After replacement it's still drifting to the right but now can only be controlled up and down. Have reset system and updated controllers to no avail. Can't recalibrate as it's not registering me moving the joystick at all. Checked connectors/housing for debris and it's made no difference.

Could it be an issue with a different part?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Did you replace the joysticks in both controllers or just one?

@flannelist

Just the right one. I've now put the old joystick back in and that's working how it was before (drifting but controllable) so I'm wondering if I've been sent a faulty part.

Hey, Emily

Do you have images of the potentiometer internals? If not it's fine, but without seeing the internals I would just suggest replacing the potentiometer again, with a part from a different retailer. The replacement you put in the Joy-Con may not have been a working part.
