hard drive connection to PC

Hi,

First off ,great site, helping me renew ipod without spending a fortune!

I replaced the motherboard but Itunes then wanted to format my Ipod thereby me losing alot of songs not saved on my external hard drive (stupid me!).

I got a ZIF connector but my PC now says I must format the Ipod hard drive thereby losing the songs again. How do I recover the songs from the Ipod HDD without having to format it??

Thanks!

Which program is prompting you to reformat? I've had similar issues with storage devices but I've also been able to just access the files and manually copy them through my computer's file browser.

Its Windows 7, it installed drivers but I cant access the HDD without format, even by going into partitioning..

windows7 really shouldn't be doing that. Was the original iPod a Windows formatted iPod? If nothing else, try a linux live cd and actually take a look at what is still on this drive.

No it wasnt a windows formatted ipod. The Ipodrip program also cannot access the HDD.. what is a Linux live cd?

by

What OS did you use for the iPod before? Linux is another OS and the Live CD will enable you to access all the programs and files. I use Puppy Linux. If you used a different OS before to sync the iPod, Windows will now to try to reformat the drive, since it can not read the existing format.

Use iPod Rip (Mac & PC, free & paid versions). Here's where to download it:

The free software only lets you rip 100 tracks, $19.95 after that :-)
