You replaced just the keyboard? Or the whole top case?

by

@flannelist Replaced whole top case (661-12594)

by

@Dmt A But the screen works properly otherwise?

by

@flannelist Yes, the laptop is working properly

This sounds like issue with sleep wake functions which are integrated with hall effect sensors in the display. These signals also run through the trackpad the device knows to wake up if the keyboard or trackpad is actuated when the display is open. I would make sure a few connectors are seated properly and fully. In order of my suspicion of the issue:

  • The microphone, which is under the "left" speaker and connects to the keyboard's circuit board. It would be easy to accidentally leave in the other top case. One of the hall sensors, which detects the presence or absence of magnets in the display to know whether the display is open or closed is part of this little cable.

  • The cable from the audio board that goes over the fan to the logic board. The other hall sensor is included in this speaker which connects to the audio board. It lives under some foam on the sticker side of the speaker.

  • The connection between the speaker and the audio board.
  • The trackpad cable itself.

The new whole top case keyboard was with the microphone installed.

@Dmt A What happens if you reinstall the original top case? Does the issue persist? There could be an issue with something in the replacement top case.

@flannelist

Hall sensor appears to be in speaker on audio board side.

Where did you get the information that the sensor is assembled with a microphone?

by

@Dmt A There are two. One is on the speaker, as you mentioned. And one in the top case in the mic assembly.

I edited better pictures into the original post. Ultimately the one from the mic ends up running through the trackpad cable. Which could also be the issue. I would make sure the cable is seated properly. The open signal is sent through the trackpad cable as well, so if it were shorted, or punctured that signal might not get through.
