Sim tray will not go in all the way

My wife's iPhone 3G sim tray will not go in all the way and I do not want to force it and break the internals of the device. How should I repair this issue?

Are u sure you are inserting the sim card correctly? did u try to insert on both sides?

I was putting it in the right way but it was pressing against the display somehow. Anyhow, I actually fixed this problem by opening up the glass cover and sliding in the sim tray while the cover was open. I then simply shut the cover and it worked fine. Thanks for your comment.

The SIM card goes in with the 3G label faces same way as screen and the notch is at top left. The exposed gold fingers face the back. When putting it back in it has some slop so just wiggle it going down to the seat.

I opened mine up to check it out. Good luck

I think the tray is plastic so you could superglue it back together being sure to keep the sim card away until it is dry. Use a nail file to fix any high spots. Then put it back together.

My 1st gen iPhone has thus same problem, and I can't solve it. The sim card tray won't go in all the way. Any other suggestions? I'd rather not have to try opening the iPhone.

if you buy one of those multi-purpose-duster things that have air in it and just try to clean out the inside where the tray goes in, that should help. it also works for audio-connection if you have problems with your sound. i went to the at&t store but they were no help. people say all you can do is get it checked out and then they might tell you to buy a new one, but for me, this helped and now it works fine.

Had the same problem. Like Alex I had to adjust the screw on the sim eject lever; but found that loosening it slightly seemed to help. However, to get to the screw you have to partially disassemble the phone. Not for the feint of heart,
