MacBook screen goes black but external monitor stays on

Hi, just wondering what would be the issue with my macbook? I have an external monitor hooked. Lately, my macbook air's screen would turn black, but its working - like i can still do my stuff but I can't access the documents opened in my macbook display.

I dont know how to open the screen on my macbook. If I close it, both screens would be black and I have to turn off the thing and open again. This happened in the last 2 days. I tried unplugging everything but if i plugged again, i will have 2 black screens.

(I've been a longtime windows user and just switched to Macbook last year)

Answer this question I have this problem too

could either be a bad screen, the backlight isn't working or it is suffering from a flexgate issue

@tech_ni - FlexGate was just an issue in the 2016/17 models not this newer M2 model. That was a backlight power cable issue.

This is completely different!

Given how new the system is I would just bring it to Apple as unless you did something it would be a free repair under warranty!
