No Backlight. Inverter or LCD backlight tube?

Hi everybody,

I have a macbook core 2 Duo 2,1 Ghz which have no backlight since few days (without any shock). If I use a flashlight, i can see the desktop so I think it's not an LCP problem.

I also notice, if i put backlight to the minimum (with the keyboard) and i increase it, I see a little flash of the backlight (less than 1 second). I can repair it but I want to be sure what is the faulty part. According to what i've seen on this forum, it can be the inverter, the inverter cable or the backlight tube on the LCD.

I hope you could help me to understand the reason of the problem.

Thank in advance.

PS: Sorry for my english, i'm french and i know i've some leak on english.

To help isolate the problem, hook it up to an external monitor (which should work fine). Your problem indicates a failing inverter or inverter cable. To check the cable move the screen up and down and note any change. If no change, replace the inverter. Here's the guide I wrote on doing this: MacBook Core 2 Duo LCD & Inverter A1181 (fast method) Replacement

Do you really think it could be the inverter? In all the A1181s I've dealt with I don't think I've ever witnessed a bad A1181 inverter...if it's not the inverter cable, I find it's usually the screen.
