Frankie Vaughan smoking electronics is never a good sign. You replaced the power supply and it smoked again? Can you let us know where or what smoked? Post some good pictures of your PSU and your main board etc. with your QUESTION. That way we can see what you see. IF a new PSU went up in smoke, something is shortening it out and that would most likely come from the main board. Adding images to an existing question

To be fair, I didn’t even look. I ran up to grab my phone. As I came down it was smoking😬. Just quickly unplugged it as I was working in a wooden outer building😂. I have stripped the disc drive, power supply, hard drive and fan and can’t see any signs of damage. Must have been the underside. To be fair I think I’m going to just give up as that was too close and I don’t have much experience with micro soldering. Thanks though!

@Frankie Vaughan you sure? Don't even want to check? :-) Sounds like you already have it mostly apart. All it takes for now are a couple of good pictures. Remember: REPAIR IS WAR ON ENTROPY

@oldturkey03 probably going to be a fet on the 12v rail, but why anyone would ask on here to get advice and the give up is mind freezer

by

@tech_ni that would make sense. Do you know if that is a common thing with the One S? Checking it and even replacing it should not be to bad and probably cheaper than a new Xbox :-)

How is winter going for you? You all doing okay?

You likely have a big cooling issue. I would suggest replacing the heatsink if none of your boards are severely damaged.

if it was a cooling issue it would still show signs off life

by

@russellrepairs but where would the smoke be coming from?

by

@oldturkey03 I suspect that the cooling issue caused an overheated power supply

@tech_ni looks clean to me 🤣

by

@strongbow maybe slight corrosion around the retimer lol

by

@strongbow @tech_ni the reason why it can't work is because there are no lines between the components.

by

@oldturkey03 I didn't notice that lol
