Mac does not start up

At first my mac was having some issues with video. I would go to youtube and the screen would start to get boxy and distort until the computer froze completely.

I then had to shutdown the computer by holding in the power button. Now when I try to start it back up, it getss past the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning cog, but when it the blue screen that follows it freezes up completely and never boots.

I think it may be a graphics issue but I not sure. Any suggestions would be helpful.

This could be the Nvidia recall issue, to be sure please give us the last three figures of your serial number.

It looks like the last three "figures" are TJ1. If that is not what your asking for could you clarify where I can find the "figures" your referring?

Apple MacBook Pro "Core Duo" 2.16 17" Specs

Identifiers: MacBook Pro 17-Inch - MA092LL/A - MacBookPro1,2 - A1151 - N/A This has the Radeon X1600 GPU so it's not an Nvidia issue.

You may have multiple issues. First try starting up from your system installation disk and running Disk Utilities on the hard drive and let us know your results and if it boots and if the screen issue exists when booted from the DVD.
