Can someone help with a project?

Me and a few colleagues of mine are looking through the electrical components throughout the Nintendo Switch Joycons. Can someone guide us through how they work and willing to chat and help?

Which components specifically do you want to know about? If you haven't looked at the Nintendo Switch Teardown yet, I would strongly recommend it. There is a bunch of information on the joycons in there as well.

I'm not sure I'm the best resource since I'm not a Switch expert, but I have done a lot of fixing, tinkering and figuring out how boards work so, I can definitely try to answer your questions as best I can.

UPDATE: I was going to edit in a bunch of info, but honestly, I think this more detailed tear down of the joystick itself is super helpful in understanding how they work.
If you're not familiar with the idea of a potentiometer, it's essentially a variable resistor. Resistors are exactly what they sound like. They resist the passage of electricity through them. They are generally used to lower voltage in a circuit.

Potentiometers are used in a whole lot of applications, but here the variance in resistance on either axis is used to calculate the direction the joystick is titled.

That's completely fine if you aren't an expert! If you can tell me about the potentiometer and how it reacts with the electrical circuitry. Do you have an email or platform I can contact you with so we can talk about it in depth :)

@pauli_b Sorry for the delay in response. Been a bit hectic at work lately. I am not usually one to give out my contacts in a public forum, but I am willing to bet, if you have those sort of questions, others do too! You're welcome to ask ask much here as you want.

I will put a bit in my original answer about how the potentiometers work and others who might know more can throw in their two cents. Luckily I had to do some research for this when I was writing about joystick drift for some of the Nintendo Switch wiki pages I wrote here at iFixit. Let me know if you have some specific questions and I'll do my best to address them!

HI ITS ME AGAIN! So can you explain how Ninentdo Controller Calibration works? I have built a joystick and wonder whether or not I can test it within the Nintendo Switch Calibration. Can you help please?
