Fingerprint sensor not working after screen replacement.

Hello,

I recently replaced my screen and everything seems to be working as expected, except for the fingerprint sensor. If I try to register my digits I get the following error.

Fingerprint setup timed out

Fingerprint enrollment didn't work. Try again or use a different finger.

Can someone help me out with this?

I found a workaround to this problem, and have posted that workaround on the Google forums here: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/th...

IfThe solution that finally worked was

1. Disable face recognition

2. Go to finger print recognition and It'll work

3. Redo face recognition

Assuming there is no fault with the parts used, you'll need to run Google's repair tool, it's pretty simple to use but does require a computer running windows.

https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/

The program should walk you through it step by step, but essentially, you'll need to download the software, launch your phone into fastboot, and connect it via a sync+charge cable to your computer (the one included with your phone should work, however some third party ones do not)

There's some debate over whether or not this requires a factory reset, and while I don't believe it does, always make sure to backup your phone before doing any kind of debugging.

I tried this solution and it still does not work. When you try to set up fingerprint, you get error "fingerprint error timed out"

I have the same issue, new "official" screen from ifixit but fingerprint sensor times out immediately. Tried the pixelrepair url, it ran but did not fix the issue.

Install ADB drivers and put usb debugging on. Look on reddit. I did it with the google pxil repair tool. My new screen has now a good sensor again.

Sorry for the late response. I followed Rowdy de Bever's suggestion and it worked! These are the instructions I followed to get it working.

Hope this helps 🙂

I followed the reddit post that Jordan Martinez posted and it worked like a charm!!

Easier solution found after the message "fingerprint set up timed out".

In Face and Fingerprint Unlock

1. Deactivate facial recognition.

2. Go into fingerprint set up. And away you go.

3. Set up facial recognition. Bingo!

Instructions here absolutely worked, just ensure you have developer mode set up correctly and the right drivers on your PC.

I tried the iFix it link and it wouldn't recognise me as an EE carrier likely because I'm SIM only and bought the phone from Google. I did a factory reset (it was due one anyway due to several app bugs) and that didn't work.

IMPORTANT NOTE: you have to update the driver while your device is plugged in AND in fast boot mode

Hi, has anyone tried any of the above for a pixel 7a? Or know of a solution for the 7a? I need to change the screen, but don't want to lose the feature. Thanks.

The ifixit instructions aren't the best. The software repair tool is pretty useless. At the bottom of the Google page there should be a link to configure the sensor. The Reddit link has everything you need to sort it.

Thanks for the prompt response. I will only be able to try it after I get the screen replaced. Will update then.

CHECK THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER BEFORE GLUEING YOUR NEW SCREEN SHUT!

In my case it didn’t work, no fix tool, no memory wiping, no updating, no downgrading, no upgrading, nothing. I can’t risk breaking the screen.

I changed the screen and had difficulty with my windows 11 machine to get the driver and use the Google repair tool.

Ended up trying with a chrome book and its worked immediately. I recommend trying a chrome book for ease!

I also had trouble with the fingerprint calibration link provided by iFixit. The Google tool link they provided kept griping about the software on my phone being too new and it wouldn't proceed. In fact, it was encouraging me to reset my phone to an older release!

I found a Reddit thread with a set of instructions for a Pixel 6 that worked great: https://www.reddit.com/r/Pixel6/comments.... The key to this process working was the link in this step:

  • Go to the "Fingerprint Calibration Software" tool on the "Google Pixel Update and Software Repair" site. https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/udfps and do steps 1 (turn off phone), 2 (use Volume Down and Power button to enter fast boot) and 3 (plug phone into computer, click "Connect Phone" on web page).

Note I also enabled USB Debugging mode in Developer Options.

Hope this helps someone!
