Shelf life of ifixit battery kit?

I was getting battery error messages any time the power adapter wasn't plugged in. State of charge was stuck at 1% or went from 100% to 1% soon after the adapter was unplugged. The battery preferences tab said that it needed service. So I ordered up the iFixit replacement kit.

Step one: drain the old battery. Well, darn if it didn't run for nine hours of writing, browsing and reading on "1% charge." Seems as if it's more of a calibration problem than an end-of-life problem. Though the preferences tab still says it needs to be serviced. There appears to be quite a bit of life left in the old battery after all.

So my current dilemma is whether to replace the battery anyway (some rainy day when I "get around to it"), hold the Ifixit kit in reserve (for months? years?) or return it. How quickly will the new battery degrade, just sitting in its original packaging?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Try zapping the PRAM. Here's how:

How to reset PRAM on a Mac

  1. Shut down your computer and disconnect all USB devices (except wired keyboards).
  2. Press the power button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Immediately press and hold the Option, Command, P, and R keys on your keyboard. ...
  4. Hold down these keys for 20 seconds, during which time your Mac will appear to restart.

BTW I keep iFixit batteries in stock. I just installed one that's five years old and it was above specs for the original battery.

well your battery seems that its mostly just a firmware issue but I'm not that familiar with batteries like that but for the high quality battery you purchased here id say does it have a warranty keep it until about halfway through that warranty if your current battery does still work after about four months id say return the ifixit battery

Let’s get a better view of the new batteries health. Install this gem of an App! CoconutBattery. Take a snapshot of the main window and post it here for us to see while the charger is plugged in.
