Replaced battery touch screen fails

Touch screen not working even after DFU hard reset

Update (12/27/2022)

Since Verizon is giving me a trade-in value for the SE, I'm letting it go. No need to spend my time repairing a 6-yr-old phone that will soon not be able to accept IOS updates. But thanks to everyone that offered solutions.

Answer this question I have this problem too

@nadineh, There are a couple of things to try out, but you will have to open the phone back up again on 2 and onwards;

  1. Shine a flashlight at an angle on the screen and see if you can make out an Apple logo (backlight check)
  2. Disconnect battery, then screen and inspect all connectors with a magnifying glass, for damage
  3. Clean connectors using >99% isopropyl alcohol and let dry a minute before connecting screen then battery

If you can make out a logo or image when testing 1, you have a busted backlight. Did you disconnect the battery prior to disconnecting the screen, first time around? Leaving the battery connected when disconnecting the screen will often kill the backlight.

When checking the connectors, even the slightest damage can be enough!

Cleaning and reseating the connectors often solve the issues with no touch, because a tiny spec of dust is hindering full connectivity.

Let us know how you make out ;)

The screen is not black, there is no problem with the backlight. It is simply not responding to any touch. There is no apparent damage to the screen. I did have to use alcohol to soften the adhesive for the battery removal. Pulling the adhesive strips was hampered by structures at the bottom of the battery that caused the tapes to shred when pulled. The battery was disconnected as soon as possible in opening the phone & not reconnected until reassembly. Without touch I cannot respond to any of the phone's requests for input.

@nadineh The backlight part in my answer was mostly for future users with similar problems. It’s always good to check first.

Since the screen show picture it’s highly likely to be either a bad digitizer or a faulty touch circuit. This makes steps 2 and 3 very important next steps

You may have damaged the screen when taking the phone apart, which means you will have to replace it. There is also the possibility that the display connectors are not seated correctly.
