benjamin cenan, Can you confirm the exact full model number of your camcorder? Having the exact model number will help in trying to find a service manual (is available) or some schematics, anything that could help.

Most likely you have some shot electrolytic capacitors on the boards inside the camera. You’ll have to open it up and gain access to all the boards, then check the caps (best option is to use an ESR meter to measure the Equivalent Series Resistance) of all the electrolytic caps.

I had a camcorder on the bench a few months back with the same symptom, and had to recap all the boards to get it going. Once the ESR goes up on one or two caps, the best option is to replace all of them. You can get away with replacing only the ones that are truly bad, but it’s just postponing the inevitable.

benjamin cenan, I’m having read difficulties in tracking down much of anything related to that model info. I found a user manual, but not much else.

I’d like to have a service manual to refer you to, for disassembly, but it looks like you’ll have to “go in blind”. If you decide to do this, may I suggest you document it with good quality pictures, and then write up a new guide and share here? Here is information about how to create a new guide

how will i find the caps for the camera

by

benjamin cenan, Well, you first need to disassemble the camera and gain access to all the boards. Then you have to find the values of all the electrolytic capacitors on the boards and order replacements. If you have an ESR meter, you can measure to find the worst ones, but the best option is to replace all at the same time.
