Trackpad or Touch Pad not working

My trackpad is stiff. It is very difficult to click on something. The lower left corner works when tapping and holding down the control key to say, empty the trash or eject a thumb drive. But clicking not so much.

I read here that I should check the battery for swelling. That interests me because also with the touchpad not working, my laptop does not sit flat on the desk. It has a wobble to it. Could the battery be swelling causing the laptop to wobble and restrict the touchpad/trackpad?

If it is swelling then replacing the battery would be the answer correct?

Thanks much.....

Rich

I’m suspecting your battery which is under the trackpad has swollen up enough to stop the trackpad to depress. Given the age of your system it also tells me you are in need of a new battery anyways. Most battery’s last around 4~5 years at most.
