Do I need a heatsink for my SSD?

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask you a question.

I recently bought a SSD for my PS5, it is the Samsung 980 Pro. As the manufacturer say, there is a “Smart thermal solution” that manages heat on its own. Many people don’t put any heatsink but others do.

Can you say me, if I can continue to use it without heatsink?

Sony says you do, follow their instructions.

"Smart thermal solution" just means it will slow itself down or even shut itself off when it overheats, which isn't really a solution.

So there is a very good video that LTT made on this exact topic, which I will link here for your viewing pleasure. To give you the spark notes of it as long as you are not operating at extreme temperatures, ideally, between 0° C and 70° C you should be fine.

It’s always recommended to use a heat sink with a ssd in a ps5. Google it.
