Why is my camcorder not holding charge?

My mini dv sony camcorder will only operate when plugged in. It will be plugged in for hours, and once plugged it is unplugged it will turn off completely. How do I fix it so it charges and I can use it?

This is a standard case of a bad battery. I would need the model of your camcorder to help you further.
