Thank you so much for your valuable response. I have tried all the basic tips, but nothing seems to work. The only thing left is to take it apart, for which I need a free time. I shall certainly try to tackle it. Watch this space !

@bhupy I see, indeed I've been in the same predicament for a while, maybe now I'll start from where I left off and share my experience too, if the repair will be succesful. Anyway I'd say go for it, although this is quite a delicate operation, at the end this could turn out to be caused simply by some trapped debris or by a loose connector; at this link you can find some useful guides that'll help you set up the work space before you start: Electronics Skills.

Of course we'll be happy to hear how it's going or if you've managed to repair the camera, keep us updated

Thanks for the encouragement. I need to get those ‘fine tooth and comb’ tools now. Thanks again, Simone..

Had the same issue on my Canon PowerShot s100, it started like that and now the lens is completely stuck in the open position. I haven't fix it yet, but here I found a link to a webpage with very useful tips on how to try solving the "Lens error" issue, the good thing is it applies to virtually any camera manufacturer. Just remember that some of these methods (1-5) are unharmful, while others could damage the camera even more, so proceed in the steps at your own risk.

Good luck with the repair, let us know if you need more advice or if you manage to fix your camera
