If you still experience the error, you can follow this guide to disassemble the camera and manually clean the inside of the camera and the lens.

Parts

No parts required.

Turn off camera by pressing power button above the LCD screen.
  • Turn off camera by pressing power button above the LCD screen.

  • Remove the battery and memory card.

Remove the screws on the bottom of the camera using a 00 Philip's head screw driver
  • Remove the screws on the bottom of the camera using a 00 Philip's head screw driver

Remove the screws on the right side of the camera.
  • Remove the screws on the right side of the camera.

Remove the screws on the left of the camera underneath the "A/V out Digital" cover flap.
  • Remove the screws on the left of the camera underneath the "A/V out Digital" cover flap.

Remove the screws on the bottom of the camera near the battery and the memory card slots.
  • Remove the screws on the bottom of the camera near the battery and the memory card slots.

  • This screw is longer than the rest of the screws.

Remove the front back and side casings from the camera.
  • Remove the front back and side casings from the camera.

Once you have removed the front case, clean the lens and area surrounding the lens with a brush. Tweezers can be helpful when removing sand.

  • Once clean, reassemble the camera and if the E18 error persists, further disassembly of the camera may be required.
