No display but works fine on external monitor

I have an M1 Macbook Air that was working fine. (It wasn't dropped and there were no liquid issues.) I left it running for a few minutes and when I came back the screen was black.

I have tried several things to fix it including checking the power, brightness level, reboot, reset NVRAM/PRAM, I was able to connect it to an external monitor where it works fine. Connected to the external monitor I started it up in recovery mode and ran the disk utility. No errors. I then tried to reinstall the OS, but it's still gray/black. How can I get the display to work?

Thank you for the quick reply! Two follow up questions. Is this something that I can do easily using the guide or is this difficult? Second, what could cause this?

Thank you again!

It’s not to difficult, but you do need to gentle with the parts as they can be damaged.

As to why it failed, a bang or drop is all it often takes just at the more sensitive places. Stuffing the system in a case with a charger on top of the lid could press on it if something heavy was placed or sat on.

Finally received the kit. (I'm overseas.) and I got it fixed today. Great kit and great instructions! The only problem I had was to get the new display attached. Done! Thank you!
