Do I need to replace entire trackpad or just the brackets?

Macbook Air Late 2010: Trackpad. The mechanics of the trackpad only work correctly when pressed on the bottom right corner (it goes down and back up as expected). The bottom left corner is permanently depressed and cannot be pressed or clicked.

I am not sure if I need an entire new trackpad or if the issue can be corrected by replacing a part, such as the brackets and screws that iFixit sells. The trackpad works fine otherwise, especially using the "tap to click" function, which does not require depressing on the trackpad. However, I would still like to fix this issue.

I'm suspecting your battery is pressing on it. Let’s get a better view of things, install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Adding images to an existing question

I second @danj's comment; a swollen battery could be pressing on the trackpad from the bottom and keeping it from working. Definitely a good idea to take out the 10 Pentalobe screws on the bottom of the case and check the condition of the battery; you're looking for any that are pillowy and no longer flat.

Thank you both. I will take a look and follow up. Just ordered the tools I need from ifixit.

The battery was swollen. Once I replaced it, the trackpad functioned properly. Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it.

@Jose, Awesome! Congratulations on a successful repair and not having to replace your trackpad. :)
