Battery door will not open with tool

I've used the tool that came with the fitbit zip but I'm wondering if i can pry it open without ruining it. It just won't turn to the unlock position so I can replace the battery

Answer this question I have this problem too

@dacqua prying it apart is not going to work. You will only break the mechanism of the cover or the cover itself. If the tool does not work, try a coin or a small washer and a pair of pliers to try and open the cover. You may not get enough torque with the tool.

I had the same problem. After months of letting it sit, and replacing with a fitbit inspire, I tried a more extreme solution. I jb-welded the removal tool to the back of the fitbit, let it set for almost a day, and then was able to twist the back off normally. I used a razor blade to gently pry under the jb-weld until I could pry it up with my thumb and break it off. Then used the razor blade to further disconnect the jb-weld from the lid until it came loose. Now the tool fits better into the worn out back cover, and I'm back in business.

To more directly answer your question: yes, you would break it by forcing it out without twisting. Then you'd have to come up with another way to hold the battery in place tightly so it would make a reliable connection.

Rubbing Alcohol! I just called Fitbit customer service for my Fitbit Zip, the customer service agent told me to take a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol and rub it around the edge of the battery cover and then use the tool. I did that, and it worked!
