Performance difference of iMac and MacBook Processors

I want to know about processor performance different between imac, macbook air and pro. If I consider intel based apple computers and target intel core i5 6th generation processor then all 3 devices have same specification processors got installed?

As per my knowledge macbook came with dual core processor and imac with quad core processor.

I want to purchase low budget apple laptop so shall I required to go with macbook air or pro? I am a mobile game programmer so I need little bit of higher configuration macbook but my use was minimum because I already have 2 imac computers.

Just on travelling I will use macbook so I don't want to expense much on this.

I knew this is broad question but please share your opinion on these points :)

Hi

The difference between MacBooks and iMacs is quite big

MacBooks use mobile processors and iMacs use both mobile and desktop depending on the model and configuration(one or the other though not both at the same time)

iMacs CAN be more powerful depending on the configuration but you can get similarly configured MacBooks for a better price

Since you are doing mobile game programming you might want something with some power behind it

For that sort of thing I recommend theses two types of mac

2012 MacBook Pro 13inch

These are known for their reliability but aren’t as powerful as the next option ,however they have something even modern macs don’t have:upgrades,you can repair and upgrades these macs quite easily as they have mostly modular components

2013-2015 MacBook Pro 15inch

I have one of these (2014) and I can safely say they are very powerful,I do video editing, music production and much much more on them and for a laptop it handles the harder tasks very well,small warning if you buy one of these :not all of them come with a GPU inside, I would get one with a gpu as they perform and Handel things better and cost about the same

I would choose which ever one fits best within your budget as they are great and I can safely say that as I have used both of them for a long long time so I’m my opinion you can’t really go wrong no matter which one

Hopefully this helps

Any questions please ask

Thanks:-)

@hellomacos thank you for your quick reply - as per your suggestion shall I required to go with macbook pro with graphics capability like 1gb or 1.5gb intel or nvidia and model year between 2012 to 2015?

Through this I can able to run softwares like unity, adobe products etc...

@siddharth3322

As far as I know you should be able to run the software you want

Also if you even want you could dual boot

Another OS like windows

I would go for the mac with the Nvidia graphics as they also come with the intel’s graphics too:-)

@hellomacos and sir the last question from my side, many macbook pro also showing with dual core processor wether its i7 too.

shall I required to consider dual core? or just completely ignore it.

by

@siddharth3322

Only consider it if you don't want to spend extra for the quad core ones

by

@hellomacos do you mean dual core remains enough for me? this is big surprise for me :)
