Black Screen but works with external.

Greetings all. I'm a little new to the Mac world. My iMac turns on, I hear the tone and fan, but the screen is black. When I connect to an external, I get video. With a PC, that means replacing the LCD. Is the solution the same for an iMac?

Hi

What’s your brightness sitting at

I know this seems a little too obvious but it’s got me a couple times:-)

@guardian10 This is the diagnostic code on the board. I do believe this confirms your suggestion. Thanks!!!

Hello Professor Will,

Having the same problem on 2 identical iMacs (the exact same one you have). Did you manage to resolve your screen issue? If so, how?

Many thanks

Chosen Solution

You're probably right about the LCD being bad, but there could be more to it.

First up, can you see anything when you shine a light into it? If you can, then there is a backlight issue. It could be the driver board, backlight controller on the logic board, or the display backlight itself of it's fried.

If that is not the issue, the display connector on the board could be damaged in one way or another.

I can't see anything when I shine the light on it. I've tried all of the key combination solutions and still no luck. How would I know if it's the LCD or the logic board?

@Professor Will Take a look at the socket the display plugs into. If it is damaged, it would require soldering to fix. Otherwise, the display is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Appreciate the feedback. Will look into it ASAP
