Playstation 2 laser worth repairing

The question says it all. I'm curious if the slimline playstation 2 laser models are worth repairing or not. I have a slimline ps2 9000 series model with a dead laser as the unit doesn't read discs anymore.

Looking at repair guides for the 7500 series slimline ps2, the guide says that you have to desolder the old laser and then solder in the new laser.

On amazon, lasers for the ps2 slim are pretty cheap, but I have never used a solder before. Not that I can't learn.

If you have a ps2 that has a laser that breaks on you, does it make more sense to repair the laser assuming that you know the repair process correctly or do you just buy another ps2 unit?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Replacing laser don't usually require soldering, he must be talking about replacing just the diode. If you replace the sled assembly, it shouldn't require soldering.

It's not going to worth repairing anyway, it just depends on whether you want to do it for fun.

Looking at a replacement laser lens on amazon, it says and I quote

"Please desolder the anti-static solder point before installation,Or your console won't work."
