My UE Megablast wont charge

I have had this speaker for a few years now, without issue, but for the last month or so it has been losing it's charge after about an hour. When I plugged it in tonight the light flashed once, then it told me it had a critical battery level, but will not charge. Is this fixable? crossing fingers and hoping

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

How are you charging your speaker? Did you try another cable?

You may want to get a USB power meter to check your charger, cable and the speaker its self. I find this one is quite helpful MakerHawk USB Power Meter Tester It offers micro USB, USB-A & USB-C connections.

Thank you for responding. I am using the cable that came with the speaker to attempt a charge. A friend has the same speaker, so I tried her cable with no luck, and she tried mine and it worked fine. I called the customer support number, and "due to unforeseen issues they were unable to answer my call". So I tried chatting with a bot from the UE site, and after I gave the serial number, it was "unable to help at this time." Then I downloaded the diagnostic tool, which couldn't connect to the speaker. Im running out of ideas

There could be an issue with the usb port. It is quite common that the solder joints on the charging port break off rhe board causing a dogdy connection.

It would also explain why the diagnostic tool never connected to the speaker. I had a JBL speaker with a similar issue….

Does the speaker start to charge if you fiddle around with the cable and lightly press it in different direction(s)?

by

Im guessing the same, either that or the battery. The charging light doesnt come on with different cables, or wiggling it a bit, (Im told the funny faces I make while doing this dont help either) Thank you for your help, it has been greatly appreciated. I think I'll try to source a new battery and port...and learn how to solder.

@blasted - Try replacing the port first! You could get the power adapter stand which then offers a fresh port Power Up.

@blasted - Sorry to hear you're still having problems. At this point you need to see if the speaker is even taking power. This is where the USB power meter is needed. Putting it in series with the power source you should see how much power the speaker is accepting.

If its not then its likely the connector Logitech UE MegaBoom Auxiliary Port and micro USB Port Assembly Replacement or its Logitech UE MegaBoom Battery Replacement

Hi @danj

Just wondering if the Megaboom is essentially the same as the Megablast in other respects?

Looking online they seem to use different batteries so maybe other things are different as well

Megaboom

Megablast

Cheers

by

@jayeff - They are very similar. EU added some features within the controls with a special button to control your music with the newer MegaBlast unit as well as offer a powering base so you don't need to disconnect the cable.

The charge port is different from the mega blast then the one on the mega boom I can’t seem to find the replacement charge port for the mega blast any help in finding a charge port for the mega blast would be very much appreciated

by

@travismyer84787 - Correct, the parts are different but the construction is basically the same. Other than finding a junker I don’t know of any parts source.

That’s unfortunate this thing stopped charging like one week after warranty ran out paid 200 something for this speaker goes bad right after the warranty ran out and now can’t even buy a part to fix it lol another guy on here with the name of Turkey something gave me websites to check into the mouser one is down says we will be back soon lol but I think he misunderstood what part I’m needing I don’t want to just replace the port it’s self but the whole circuit board the usb connection is attached to it’s only like a 1 x1 inch circuit board that plugs into a connector that has like 8-10 pins on it
