Reading the Hard Drive
My iMac is totally dead. If I remove the hard drive what would I need to retrieve the data from it and save it to either my iPad or MacBook Pro?

Telboy YNWA get yourself an external hard drive enclosure for your IDE HDD. You can then access the files and use it as an external drive. Something like this should work for you.
