MacBook Pro 2017 backlight issues

You have reported that the MacBook Pro backlight issues are caused by a delicate flex cable,

Apple announced Service Program will repair affected devices, which includes machines sold between October 2016 and February 2018 for free, this time repair program only cover 2016. My computer is 2017 product (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports), it has back light problem too, Apple repair checked and ask for UDS$ 550 to repair, because they only free repair for 2016, why and what can we do?

You are not the only one that has faced this, you need to ask for a warranty exception as this is a design failure.

The window to get any relief is closing! Which is likely why Apple is now charging for the repair.

@khangneovip - You better hop into your vehicle and get your self to an Apple Store ASAP!!

Your time is very short in getting this fixed under the extended warranty program (review the Blue URLs I posted above) otherwise it’s out of your pocket! MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2016-2017) Display Assembly were it would be free!

I’ve gotten the 2017 fixed a few times asking for a warranty exemption as they know the 2017 faced the same issue!

I've had the same issue, called apple customer support and they've told me that only the 2016 model would be covered even though they know some 2017 models may experience this, insane. How did you go about this in store? I'd like to try to get it fixed asap!

@clvidmar - The squeaky wheel gets the grease! Don’t accept No, make it a YES! Many country’s have longer (better) protection laws that the US! Find out what your protection is.

Press for a warranty exception, ask for the repair manager then the store then the regional managers. Write a letter to big Tim as well as talk to your local consumer protection groups, write a complaint as well!

But what worked a few years ago is getting harder as this system is getting close to the vintage listing when Apple wipes there hands of servicing the system

@joseandres26056 - Sadly the window is now fully closed for the 2016 and likely for the 2017 as well.

So that only leaves replacing the display assembly which is quite expensive! MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2016-2017) Display Assembly
