Is it possible to upgrade the CPU?

Hi!

I’d like to know whether it’s possible to upgrade the CPU on the 20 inch model From the 2.6 GHz version to the 3.0GHz version.

Thanks!

While is can be done, it doesn’t offer enough benefit given the amount of work needed and finding the proper CPU chip for your system.

Why do you think this is the best direction for you?

Thanks for your quick answer!

I thought of doing this because it only costs about 70€ and I wouldn’t mind the effort if it would actually work.

The problem is that I’ve been looking on other threads about very similar questions and they say that it sadly is not possible, but I haven’t found the reason why they believe so.

Do you know what the criteria would be for a CPU replacement?

@whatcanifix - You require this CPU: 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo (E8435) to replace your 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo (E8135) CPU. Finding one of these CPU's is very difficult and it could be expensive.

Given all of the other limitations of this system its a lot of work with very little improvement. Your system is part of this series iMac9,1

Take the time to review your's 20" iMac 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo (Early 2009)

So it is not possible to use the Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 (Socket P)? It seems to be the exact same processor with the same specifications. They are easier to get

@whatcanifix - Square peg won't fit round hole ;-}

You must use the E8435 processor no other will work.

Ok, thanks a lot for your answers!
