iPhone Parts List Help!

Is there a guide or website that shows the name and function of each iPhone part? I have a 3GS and would like to know.

I ask because I bought an iPhone 3G, that has a cracked screen but everything else works. I can push the crack and it responds to my touch. I read to replace the display glass. What is that?

Is it the LCD? Front panel assembly? Display assembly?

Digitizer? Is there more than one name for a part?

When I go to look for the parts, I want to know the names of the parts.

Thanks everyone! Awesome site BTW!

Every iPhone produced so far has 3 pieces of glass that form the iPhone Front Screen. 1 the front glass that you touch with your finger. 2 the digitizer that responds to your finger touch. 3 the LCD display that shows the screen image. The iPhone 3G and 3GS normally have the front glass fused with the digitizer at the factory. This is usually purchased as the front screen with digitizer (with adhesive strips) as one piece and has Flex Cable #2 connected to the digitizer. This is what usually cracks when the iPhone is dropped. If the iPhone has image problems then the replacement to buy is the LCD display and it has Flex Cable #1 connected to it. The LCD display can be purchaced with or without its metal backplate. The LCD display has adhesive that holds it to the metal backplate, both of these are attached to the midframe with screws.

If you decide to replace the entire Front assembly, you get Front Screen, Digitizer, LCD Display, Home Button, Earpiece Assembly, Midframe, this is everything. You can also buy the Front assembly without the LCD Display (this is what many buy). YouTube has videos of the repair and installation process.
