Why did my new battery fail so quickly?
I purchased a replacement battery from iFixit battery on May 29, 2020, and now is almost dead. It is no longer under warranty, but I would have expected a much longer life. The original battery lasted many years and hundreds of cycles. Can I get a discount on a new battery due to its shorter than expected service life?

If you bought the battery from iFixit they offer a one year warranty, so dig out your paperwork.
But before you do that lets see what your battery and charging logic look like,

Apple and SMP had issues with batteries in the period of time. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) that was just in the tails of a recall (https://support.apple.com/15-inch-macboo...) that I asked diligently about getting included into; I eventually sent it in for repair but they kicked it back because of non-OEM SSD. Battery was replaced late 2021 or early 22.
The battery is swelling up again, deforming the case and the keyboard! only 136 cycles on the battery.
I would show the photo of the swollen battery that was replaced if I could attach it. When I began to take out the back cover screws you could see the gap forming and the last of the screws let the cover POP off!
