No picture on screen. Brightness controls work. External Monitor Works

About a couple of weeks ago my screen on my Macbook Pro 16" decided to just not show anything. It's on, as in I can see the screen react accordingly when I decrease or increase the brightness via my external keyboard AND via the touch bar. There's just no picture. I can also see the 'Built-in Retina Display' via System Preferences, 'About This Mac' and 'System Report'.

I can get a picture on my external monitor via Thunderbolt, so I don't think it's a Graphics Card issue??

I've read that the display cable inside can be a few millimeters short and come loose on some Macbook Pros, so I opened it up to take a look. Nothing loose, but I disconnected the cable and then reconnected it anyway and the issue is still there.

I'm looking for any ideas as to why this might be?

Thank in advance for any help!

Sadly your issue is a T-CON failure. It’s a common issue in this series. Apple’s wisdom was to move it from within the display lid to the much hotter main case, so it tends to get cooked as its temperature sensitive.

I hope your sitting down as you’ll need a new display assembly to fix this ;-{

Did you get AppleCare+? If you did it would be covered! Otherwise it’s around $900 USD for a new one.

Not quite the news I was expecting to kick off my Saturday Morning! lol.

The heating thing makes sense. When I opened my macbook, there was a significant build up of dust, so I expect that maybe contributed to an early death of the screen.

No AppleCare+ unfortunately. My business insurance doesn't cover it either....so....yeh :|

Anyway, thanks for the swift reply. I'll look into doing this DIY style with the guide you've shared.

Thanks!
