found no power to the motor at all.

I had the same model and same issue. I disassembled the pump / motor assembly and found the motor to be broken, so I ordered a replacement motor and tested it OK before putting it on. The problem persisted with the replacement. I entered Drain model (the display showed DRAIN 001, 002, 003 ‘minutes’) but found no power to the motor at all.

Tried reset by pressing three buttons next to START button and received error codes. F9 E1.

Any idea?

Hi @Sunny Knoll

If you model is a Kenmore 66513409N412 then a F9 E1 error code is a diverter sensor/motor problem.

Here’s the tech sheet for the dishwasher.

Go to p.9 to view the possible causes and what to check when you get this error code.

Thanks for the info.

I run a 18 min quick rinse, the timer counted down to 9 and I heard a click like a relay coil triggering but no water came out. The cycle kept running including recirculating and trying to drain till its end.

I’m not sure if F9 E1 is related to drain pump not getting 120V power. Maybe I should try to clear the error codes anyway.

@Sunny Knoll

Check the diverter as shown by the error code.

The diverter changes the direction of the water flow from circulation to the drain.

If the control senses that the diverter isn't operated then perhaps that is why it doesn't power the drain pump. There would be no point if the water wasn't being directed there as the pump would be pumping dry.

@jayeff Thanks a lot. What you said makes sense. I don't understand that this error code is more about the lower rack not cleaning as sufficiently, i.e. this error code is about diverting the water between going to the upper or the lower spray arms. The issue I'm facing is the drain pump motor not getting power.

My mistake. You're right. I was getting confused with another make and model.

If you're getting a 9-1 error code then you may have to solve that either first or as well as you shouldn't be getting it.

I suggest finding out why it is occurring first, just to ensure that you're looking for only one problem.

p.5 of the tech sheet has the drain motor circuit so perhaps you can trace that through. There's only a relay contact and a fuse in the path from the active before it gets to the motor, once through the motor it needs the triac in the control board to turn on so the return path is there for the power i.e. the neutral. So you should be able to check if the is voltage between the motor and an earth or not rather than directly across the motor terminals. If there is then the problem is between the motor and the neutral i.e. triac or wiring. If not voltage then it is the relay (not being operated or a faulty contact), the fuse or the active wiring for the drain puimp circuit

@jayeff Thank you a bunch!

Having to take care of both 9-1 code and drain motor not getting power is beyond my expectation. I always assume that a frequently seen issue like this would be caused by a single fault.

Just curious, if indeed there were problems with one or more of these components, is it worth trying replacing them?
