what is the history of your phone? drops/damage/new to you?

Was my sons. He changed telco companies and bought new iPhone 4. The iphone 3 was networked locked so younger son decided to hit the internet to try and hack it open. I have since spoken to the original telco company and the one which I am with now and the original company has unlocked it from their net work but with a good sim card in it now it just comes up with the message "call failed"

try opening the "settings"app, go to general, reset network settings.
