Can I fix the hook for the locking mechanism?

The hook on the top of the screen no longer grasps and the lid keeps springing back up when closed.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Had the same problem on the exact same machine. Here's how I solved it. It turns out that at some point, the sleep light indicator cable had been routed in front of the lower case's latch mechanism, rather than on "the inside" of the latch (towards the laptop's guts I mean). Just the extra thinness of that cable pushing against the latch was enough to keep the hooks on the lid from achieving strong enough contact with the latch built into the bottom case. Re-routed cable, and presto. Never had another problem with the laptop staying shut.

Take a magnet and pull down the hooks and see if they are broken.

Both hooks come down but only one hooks (barely)

The other seems a bit lazy. They don't hang down parallel

Is it bent? Examine the opening for debris in the hole and clean it out. Take something like a toothpick to clean and work the lazy hook several times. At bit of graphite applied on the tip of a toothpick to the hinge joint might also help.
