Delonghi Dedica only pulls one shot and steam iron only last a few sec

Hi all, I have a Delonghi Dedica EC685.M I have had a little of two years with no issues whatsoever.

In the last couple of weeks it has not been working properly. It switches on and heats up fine. When I press the button to pull a double shot it will start pouring the espresso but after a few seconds all three lights flash for a few seconds and it stops pouring. I can then press the button again and get the rest of the double, same thing happens.

When I use the steam wand, it works fine for a few seconds, but then the three lights flash again and it switches off and I have to reset the steam function to get it going again, it makes it impossible to steam or froth milk.

The machine is a few months out of warranty, typical, but would love to be able to fix it, really missing my caps

Answer this question I have this problem too

On a Reddit page I found another who has a similar problem, as I have the exact same problem as you (with a portafilter so not a pressure issue).

I’ve been using their instructions below with 50/50 success in getting the machine to work probably again.
wish I had a permanent solution for us

Delonghi reset?

After some experimentation, the issue seems to improved by heating up the steam wand, cooling it down again by passing water through and reheat.

1. Press steam button to start heat up process

2. When light on steam button has stopped blinking, press one of the other 2 shot buttons.

3. While the single shot and double shot buttons are blinking, open the steam valve at the side.

4. This will pass water through the machine to cool it down to espresso temperature again.

5. When the noise stops and water is flowing out of the steam wand, close the steam valve.

6. Press the steam button, once the light stops flashing again, you are free to steam your milk.

I presume this is something to do with the start up process of the machine, but cant be sure.

Process takes about 30secs to 1min.

Hi,

I have the same issue as in the original description. I don't use the steam wand. When I press the button to pull a double shot it will start pouring the espresso but after a few seconds all three lights flash for a few seconds and it stops pouring. I can then press the button again and get the rest of the double, same thing happens. Would replacing the flowmeter work in this case too? Thank you.

Hi,

I was able to fix it by cleaning my flowmeter, there's a red part inside of that and I cleaned it carefully, and then everything was back to normal.

Thank you guys for sharing a detailed diagnosis and solution!

Hi,

How do you get to the flowmeter? I checked many videos but could not figure out how much would you need to disassemble it before you get to the part?

Did you see this video? The flowmeter appears at 3:40. Its the first part after the water reservoir. Use this guide for cleaning, all flowmeters are similar. But: are you sure, the flowmeter is the culprit?
