what do you mean it's not working? Is it unresponsive or does it say "unable to activate touch ID?

Whenever you replace the home button on apple products with TouchID, TouchID is lost, even if you transfer an OEM one from another device because Apple paired them to each specific motherboard for “security purposes” but on most of them, you’ll still at least have a functioning home button. The only way to maintain TouchID is to either repair the old broken one or have Apple repair it.
