How to make external display active with dead internal display

I got in an a liquid damaged MBP. The internal display is not working. An external display does work but all it’s showing is the users desktop image. I need to make it the active screen so I can get into Terminal to turn off the auto-boot. I’ve forgotten how to do it. Also any hints on what to look for on the liquid damage would help. Thanks. @danj

@mayer - Did you close the lid?

Using an external keyboard and mouse you should gain access to the primary display window after you close the lid.

@danj That works, Thanks. Any idea of what to look for as to the failure of the internal display?

@mayer - Likely a blown T-CON board. A common issue in this series as they run too hot!

The kid woke up and realized it was covered under his AppleCare after I cleaned it. Did do a Time Machine backup and restore his data onto a new MBP.
