How to upgrade graphics output

I have a church customer running a 2013 27” 3.2 GHz i5 with 16 GB of RAM and a GeForce GT 755m 1GB GPU. They need to upgrade the video output.

I see where the CPU is upgradable but cannot tell if the GPU is upgradable to the 2GB.

OWC showed no upgrades.

Is it or is there an external upgrade possible?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@mayer - Sorry didn’t see your post ;-{

None of the newer 2012 and up have MXM boards so no its not upgradable. The Video RAM I guess could be upgraded to 2 GB but that would require desoldering the BGA chips and having access to the needed replacements.

Frankly, I think thats pushing things a bit far. I would look at an external GPU unit, you who'll still need the GPU board (PCIe). Due to the limits of TB2 you’ll need to use the eGPU port fort the display output.

@danj thanks for the tips. Would you even recommend it or would a new Mac Mini be better? I have never even seen an external eGPU unit.

@mayer - If you are talking about the new M1 based Mac Mini that might be a good direction depending on what work flow is.

The reviewers appear to be gitty with glee on the performance they have measured. I'm thinking on finally upgrading my 27" 2011 to one maybe in the spring.
