Phone dying, freezing randomly.

Hi.

I have a Galaxy S7 SM-G930F that I use as my personal phone.

I have some issues, sometimes it freezes and only a force reboot fixes it, sometimes it doesn't wake up from sleep until you force reboot it, and the battery charges too fast and drains too fast.

Right now it's running a Custom ROM, stock was fine although yesterday it was freezing until I cleared the cache.

Can this be a battery issue? It works fine plugged in and it never freezes and wakes up fine although I haven't tried too much since I got it yesterday, I don't use Always On since the battery is so bad it drains too much if I turn it on, but turning it on seems to not fix it, and it also freezes in time.

Thanks.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Sounds like a logic board problem to me. Usually the battery shouldnt have much effect on the actual operations the phone is carrying. The only problems regarding batteries I know of result in the phone turning of or not turning on.

I'm worried about that too, but the question is why did it start suddenly?

@overflowunt this “the battery charges too fast and drains too fast “ is reason enough to change the battery. Once you have a new one you will at least have a known-well place to start further troubleshooting. It is also possible that this is caused by the firmware. Consider reinstalling that if a new battery does not work.

Considering the cost of a new battery compared to the value of a samsung s7 i wouldn’t know about this. It would be a shame buying a expensive battery to only discover it was a waste of money and time.

@tomasvdlaan yeah I am frugal as well but I would be okay with spending the $USD 15 to keep my phone operating. If this is still the original battery it would soon needing to be replaced anyway.

The phone actually froze while writing this and charging at 2%, I had to force reboot it.

I left the phone this night without charging and it woke up fine without rebooting.

I'm worried it's a motherboard problem?

I can afford to replace it but can I do it myself or do I need a repair shop to do it?

Unfortunately the phone keeps freezing on every ROM I try, I'm going to try and go back to stock via Odin.

I'm really worried about this.

Once you find out if this is caused by either a bad battery or your Custom ROM you can always let us know. I am certain that we can determine on how to check the motherboard to see if the charging circuitry is at fault. U4000 is the PMIC that would be the responsible chip for that. Fast battery discharge is either a bad battery or an error with the ROM.
