New SSD won’t show as an option in reinstal

I’ve replaced my old hard drive with a new Samsung SSD. I had backed up my previous drive and just did an uinbox and replaced. When I open recovery it won’t show up as an option when trying to reinstall my backup or install OSX. When I check disk utility it shows up as my internal device. What could I do? Thank you in advance for your help!

Is the new drive backward compatible to SATA II (3.0 Gb/s)?

Did you first use Disk Utilities to format the drive GUID?

Thank you for responding.

I did not format it in Disk Utility.

As I start to do that now and click Erase to format, I’m given many options for Format and Scheme. The default choices for both were Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and Scheme: GUID Partition Map.

Would it be best to leave those?
