if your phone is/was jailbroken then this is a common error.

This problem mostly occurs when you try to restore a jailbroken phone using itunes. iTunes recognised that you cheated! You need to download a known good copy of an apple iOS for the restore...ie 4.1 from here I and many others on here have used this site with no problem. Then once you have done that you can open iTunes and either "right click" on restore and select the downloaded iOS if you have a PC, or alt or ctrl+click on a Mac (sorry I always forget which one it is but try alt if that doesn't work try ctrl :-) ) it should then restore perfectly. The other option is to use the shsh blobs if you have saved them on tinyumbrella when you did the jailbreak.

didn't work.. the iOS I need to download is the 4.1 you say ?

You can select any iOS you want to use. Just remember where you save it and then use the above method to "point" iTunes to load the downloaded iOS.

Most often Error 1015 is a downgrade error. Meaning that the iPhone probably has the iPad Baseband. If this is the case you need to Restore the Firmware with a Custom Firmware made with Pwnage Tool Mac or Sn0wbreeze Windoz. There is a new Redsn0w program which may have the Pwnage Tool embedded in it.
