1 keyboard has gone white letters on black backkground
my keyboard has changed to white letters on black background. how do i change it back?

I guess you are using GBoard, so follow these steps: Open your keyboard, then click the little gear button on the top row. Afterwards, go into Theme, and then you can choose one of the backgrounds you want.

thanx but no cigar. phone had got itself confused and was in a weired mode. i reset it and its fine now

Try dark mode/light mode. In settings
