Throwing it into a chipper only takes about 30 secs! But, I'm sure you want a working system in the end! ;-}

How about giving us a clue what you are trying to fix

Hi Dan, in fact we have to disassemble several laptops that cannot be repared to retreive good pieces for other repairs.

I have to estimate the time it will take for the whole job.

Thank you :-)

Hi @mymmy ,

Don’t know the answer as it will depend on skill level, but here’s the maintenance and service guide for the laptop, that may help.

It details all the necessary pre-requisite steps and the procedures to remove all the components from the laptop. This should speed things up if no one is familiar with it already.

I would say that’s subject to your skill, patience, and access to tools. When I first go into phone repair it took about an hour to do a screen and now I can get it done in less than 15 minutes on iPhone. Samsung took me about 3 now I got it down to under an hour.

Thank you for your time but this is not really helping unfortunatelly. I need a more precise estimation for a laptop.

Cheers !

@mymmy - Stipping a system down for parts gets into how far you want to go. Someone with a good power driver and desk setup should be able to breakdown a system to the basic sub assemblies in around 30 to 45 mins.

Breaking down the sub assemblies gets into what there worth is. Some parts are glued which will take more time to unglue and could be damaged in the process. I would add in 30 minutes more to take some of the sub assembles apart.

I've done it within 30 minutes both ways with hand tools before, down to a lower chassis where everything came out - including PCBs I could keep with the replacement, but I opted to transfer mine over. Power tools are nice, but not required for speed.

@nick - Doing a few systems with elbow grease is fine. It's when you do 10's of systems your wrist and fingers will feel it!

@danj True. I was stripping a junk machine for the bottom since I wanted the better palmrest as well, and it was cheaper to find one that was missing enough parts I could get the palmrest, keyboard and lower case. That also meant I had to do the same to my damaged system which needed the repair, so I did it twice over and was pretty familiar with what had to be removed.

I will throw this asterisk in - it's very similar to the one I purchased as a refurb with 1" less of screen, no AMD GPU and a i5 vs a i7. So it's not like I was new to the platform - I knew what I was getting involved with to a degree because I had the larger one, practice and then the real deal.

840 G5 takes about an hour with manual tools. bezel is glued. newer models, G7 and G8 panel is really thin and removing bezel can very much break the panel.
