would like to upgrade my macbook pro a1150 cd drive optical drive and have know clue about finding or buying the right part for my mac

You will need to find a similar model from a newer model MBP, a 2.2 or 2.4 Ghz model... ...... not all optical drives from a newer model would be faster a variety of optical drives are out there used/new for sale....... Ifixiit does have 8x optical drives for this model in the parts section.
You can also find them for sale in other places, you would need to ensure it is the model your looking for.
They is quite a list of apple part numbers for optical drives. UJ-867 is prob. what your looking for unless you have a 17inch model which is another model #.......... These can be found online too, places like ebay.
Even thou it is not part of your question you could of course find a even faster external firewire model allowing about twice the write and read speeds if you consistently use your optical drive. The cost and speed would depend on how small the external would be. Plextor makes a larger but nice and fast firewire/esata/USB model(s).
